Isobel Lindsay Bartels Jul. 17, 1922 – Oct. 10, 2011

Resident of Alameda, CA Isobel Bartels, a lifelong resident of Alameda, went to be with the Lord on October 10, 2011 at the age of 89.

A graduate of Alameda High School, Isobel “Nelson” married her high school sweetheart Vernon Bartels a year before he shipped overseas during World War II. Shortly after his return, they were blessed with two children, Jeanne and Don.

Isobel worked at the Alameda Naval Air Station as an executive secretary for about 20 years and then, to everybody’s surprise, she became a journeyman jet engine mechanic.

Isobel loved to travel, read, eat out, listen to music and go to movies. She enjoyed everything Scottish, was an active member of Eastern Star and loved participating in Eastern Star events. Isobel and Vernon were also enthusiastic and faithful church choir members for many years.

More than anything, Isobel cherished her family and the many friends she made throughout the years. After Vernon passed away, Isobel moved to a smaller apartment overlooking Crown Beach, then later to Water’s Edge Lodge on Bay Farm Island, and finally to Golden Care Assisted Living on Bay Farm Island.

She leaves behind her beloved family: Her daughter Jeanne Cogan, son Don Bartels, son-in-law Ed Cogan, daughter-in-law Sharon Bartels, grandchildren Jeff Bartels and his girl friend Jen Magowan, Dave Bartels and his wife Katie, Christine Cogan-Mesa and her husband Moses Mesa, Mike Cogan and his wife Elaine and their son David Sean, Isobel’s only great-grandchild.
