Marilyn York, the President & Co-founder of the Alameda Naval Air Museum, died at the age of 90 in her home on October 4th 2012.
Marilyn was a Navy W.A.V.E. during WWII, and one of the first to become a W.A.V.E.! She was stationed at the Alameda Naval Air Station.
Marilyn became a “Rosie the Riveter”. After the WW2, Marilyn spent 33 years as a Journeyman Aircraft Engine Mechanic. This was at the Naval Air Rework Facility (NARF).
During WWII, Marilyn sold over a million dollars of War Bonds to aircraft and shipyard workers.
During retirement Marilyn worked hard to co-found Alameda Naval Air Museum. This museum is dedicated to the history of the Naval Air Station Alameda, Navy and Marine Corps.
A memorial service was held on Saturday November 3rd at the Alameda Naval Air Museum. Come visit the museum and see the office and Marilyn Yorks memorabilia on the first floor!
I remember Marilyn York very well. She and my late husband, Eugene Lee Neese, Jr. among others created the Alameda Naval Air Museum. I’m sorry to hear that she passed away.
