These photos are from the archives showing the construction of NAS Alameda. Depicted here are some of the early buildings, construction of the break wall, and filling in the lagoons. Naval Air Station Alameda is built on a base of dredging material. Half of the base is landfill from the estuary. Concrete “Bones” are under many locations under the soil consisting of concrete runners that hold the soil and sand together and prevent settling.
