Leroy Gallegos Jul. 13, 1952 – Oct. 14, 2011

Resident of Oakland Leroy Gallegos was born on July 13, 1952 in Hayward, CA and unexpectedly passed away October 14, 2011 in Oakland, CA with family and friends along his bedside.

Leroy was a lifelong resident of Oakland. He was a graduate of Bishop O’Dowd High School and received an AA degree from Alameda College.

Leroy worked many years as a production controller at the U.S. Naval Air Station in Alameda and was later transferred to the U.S. Postal Service where he eventually retired.

Leroy had a lifelong love for basketball and a love for children. He spent over twenty five years coaching basketball for the elementary kids at St. Elizabeth School. He has been the CYO (Catholic Youth Organization) athletic director for the St. Elizabeth Parish in Oakland for twenty years. He was a coach and good friend to many young people, he was a positive influence for thousands of families and that was something he enjoyed dearly.

Leroy is survived by two daughters, Veronica and Erica Gallegos, his sister, Rosemary Gallegos and his brother Ted Gallegos. Leroy was preceded in death by his parents, Salvador and Trinidad Gallegos, lifelong parishioners of St. Louis Bertrand in Oakland, and by his brother, Tony Gallegos. He will be greatly missed by his grandchildren and numerous nephews and nieces he leaves behind. All his family, friends and extended family will miss his presence and his witty humor, although he will remain forever in our hearts.
