Beloved and devoted husband of Marjorie Asmussen, passed away on June 3rd, 2011 at the age of 82. John was born in Tacoma, Washington on September 9th, 1928. John (also known as Ray or Raymond by those who worked with him) served in the U.S. Navy for a short time and then worked as a Department of Navy civilian at the Alameda Naval Air Station for nearly 40 years, culminating his career as a Superintendent.

John was a gentle spirit and had an enthusiastic, positive outlook on life. His influence touched many lives as he was always willing to help others and include them in his activities. John was an adventurer as well as a craftsman. He loved outdoor activities, such as camping, fishing, boating, water skiing, biking, and golfing. In his earlier adulthood, he enjoyed car rallies. His self-taught talents included stain glass design and construction. John has belonged to and held positions in such organizations as the Elks and Sons in Retirement (SIRS).

In addition to his wife, Marjorie, John is survived by his son Eric Asmussen, seven step-children and sixteen step-grandchildren. John is also survived by his sister, Vee Ann Baker, brother Henry Asmussen and sister-in-law Mary Lou Asmussen.
